Built up roof (BUR):
Built up roof (BUR) are typically made of multiple layers of tar paper or fiberglass applied with asphalt in between each layers. The final layer or top coat is usually installed with gravel to protect the roof from the sun. This method as been around for a long time and is a proven way to do flat roofs. It is mainly used for commercial roofing. Modified bitumen membrane (MBM):
This roof system as become a leader in the industry. It can be applied in multiple ways to fit your project as you need it. Its a heavy roofing material comprised of 2 layers of membrane employing multiple layers of asphalt and reinforcers around a core of plastic or rubber modifiers. It can be installed with a torch, with cold adhesive or hot asphalt.
SHINGLE ROOF
Asphalt Shingles come in two standard design options: Architectural shingles, and 3-Tab Shingles. 3Tab are essentially flat simple shingles with a uniform shape and size. They use less material than Architectural Shingles, and are therefore lighter and lower cost for both the material and the installation. They are also thinner, and do not last as long or offer Manufacturer’s Warranties as long as good Architectural Asphalt.3-Tab are the most commonly installed asphalt shingles.
The Architectural shingle is or laminated shingle, are a lot thicker and heavier than the 3 tab shingle. With the cost being very similar it can be a great alternative. It will last longer and manufaturer’s offer a great warranty on these shingles.
